1940s Lucite Brooch - Kingfisher in Reverse Painted Style (SOLD)
This vintage 1940s Lucite brooch is a hand made Kingfisher Pin. Dating from the 1940s this old brooch is in very good condition and is a nice size of 2.25 inches by 1.5 inches and approximately 2 eights of an inch thick. The edges on this vintage Lucite brooch have been cut out in the shape of the Kingfisher which is charming. This Bird Brooch is in beautiful colours - red, orange, blue, green, white, yellow and black. This Birdie Pin is also very detailed with a long sharp beak, large beady eye, short tail and it is sitting on a branch! To the reverse of the pin there is silver paint to back the design and in the good old 'make and mend' way it is naively created with what appears to be a piece of sticking plaster and an old tie pin as part of its construction! This brass pin has a guarded closure. This reverse painted Lucite brooch is in good condition and would be a special gift or a good addition to a collection of Bakelite era and early plastic jewellery.
This vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! Other favourites include, as in this case, the crinoline lady, ships, birds and names.
