1940's Faux Pearl Necklace (Sold)
This is a lovely little necklace dating from the 1940s. It is a graduated length of faux pearls - glass based beads covered in an irridescent pearl coating. The largest central 'pearl' measures just half an inch in diameter, it is spaced by very tiny pearls then the beads taper down to 2 tenths of an inch at the clasp. The necklace measures a fraction over 15 inches including the brass twist closure. Pearls and faux pearls are just right for so many occasions. They can look really dressy, lovely for evening wear and balls and the perfect jewel for weddings. Some people are superstitious about Pearls and say that 'pearls are for tears'. This has probably come about because the Romans on discovering natural pearls were so overwhelmed by the amazing beauty of these gems that they assumed they were the tears of the gods! This necklace is in really good condition and the pearls are creamy and lustrous. Wouldn't this make a great addition to your vintage jewellery box - you will wear it time and time again!
