1940s Dress Clips - Pair of signed 'Keim of London' Black Dress Clips
A pair of 1940's dress clips of large size with an open feather effect design is on offer here. Made from an early plastic composition material, similar to Bakelite, these clips have been moulded and are most attractive. These dress clips may date from the 1940s but they are in imitation of Victorian Mourning Jewellery and have the colour and look of Whitby Jet. They have both got a large, secure back clip in brass metal and these clips bear the maker's mark - KEIM of London. A little bit of research has revealed that Keim of London had a factory in London W1 at Fitzroy Works, Fitzroy Square, 1 Conway Street. They exhibited at the 1947 British Industries Fair at Olympia where they were listed as Manufacturers of High Class Dress Accessories, Imitation Jewellery, Earclips, Buttons, Buckles and Clasps. Keim worked in Plastic, Base Metals and Silver and offered findings for jewellery too. They also made Leather Handbags and Ladies' Belts. The quality and condition of this pair of dress clips is excellent. The brass clips bear the patina of decades of age and I haven't cleaned them as I find this appealing. If you wanted the clip backs to look like new a little Brasso would do the trick. Size is 2.5 inches by 2 inches so they would make the most dramatic statement worn on the lapels of a jacket or coat. These dress clips are gorgeous and the open nature of the design means they would match up with contrasting colours to great effect. I can see them on a red box swing style jacket... now if I had a jacket like that I would be sure to keep these for myself!
