With a design that harks back to the tapestry wall hangings of the medieval times this is a nice example of the 1940's /1950's home stitched brooch. Here we have a brown deer under the shade of a huge tree. The tree appears to be covered in white blossoms and there is a scattering of light green fern-like foliage in the foreground. The stitches are on a ground of burgundy coloured linen material and are quite naive in their manner. Measuring approximately 2.25 inches by 1.5 inches, the brooch is in very good order. The needlework is mounted in a chromed white metal holder . This brooch is in an oval shaped gallery with a decorative rope border style edge. There is a clear plastic front protecting the embroidery. The back has a guarded 'C' type clasp and pin mount. Embroidered and hand-made brooches were made in quantity during the 'make-do-and-mend' years of world war two and they remained popular throughout the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's. You could also buy kits with threads, pre-printed designs on fabric and the necessary mounts to complete your piece of jewellery. This pin would be lovely to wear or add to your collection of Vintage brooches or old needlework.
