1930s Clutch Purse - Black with Bronze and Black Beadwork (sold)
This clutch purse has a super Art Deco design, simple yet modern. It dates from the 1930s and is in really good condition. The bag is a satin type fabric which has been cleverly hand embroidered to great effect. It is dotted all over with tiny round black beads and then has distinct areas of pattern picked out in bronze round and bugle beads on both the front and reverse. The two bottom corners have a stylised Egyptian palm effect and the whole design is most pleasing. It really does say ' I am a 1930's handbag'! The bag is a decent size, large enough to be useful today, you would certainly fit in a Blackberry plus anything else you needed for a night out! This Deco handbag has a beaded strap allowing it to be held or to be suspended from a belt. It fastens with a 'kissing clasp'. The size is approximately 7.5 inches by 5 inches at the widest points. This 1930s evening purse is in great condition. The lining is satin with a mirror pocket and is in pretty good order for the age of the purse, there are two or three scuffs to the fabric inside where it has been used. A little label tacked inside declares it 'Foreign' - most likely French or Belgian at a guess.
