1920's Yellow Mother-of-Pearl Beads with 9ct Gold Push Clasp Fastener(SOLD)
This is a truly lovely necklace. It is made up of graduated oval beads which are natural mother-of-pearl, handcarved into shape. This hand carving means that each bead is slightly irregular which adds to the unique appeal. These beads have been dyed a warm and rich glowing amber gold colour. My photos really don't portray the real glow that these beads have - it is amazing - much richer and warmer than the pics in real life! The beads have been threaded onto silk of the same colour and are knotted in between each bead. I think that the beads have been rethreaded and I would imagine they were part of a longer, flapper style necklace in the deco era. The necklace is fastened by a barrel clasp with a push-in fastener made of 9 carat gold. The largest central bead is just about 1.5cms in length and 1cm in width approx with the tinest beads being a little over a quarter of a centimetre in length and a little under a quarter of a centremetre in width. The overall length of these beads, including the clasp, is 19inches approx. This necklace has a fresh and timeless appeal. A perfect length of beads for simple everyday wear and yet elegant enough for dressing up for a night out too!
