1920's Faux Tortoiseshell Haircomb with Decorative Panel(Sorry this item has been sold)

This is a most interesting comb because of both its shape and the decorative panel along the top.  Made of celluloid, this hair accessory has a black and gold effect design.  The panel appears to have been inlaid into the comb and looks a little like Toledo work.  It depicts a gold winged dragon in the centre surrounded by foliage dotted with a few flowers within a gilded border.  The comb itself is mottled brown and honey coloured just like real tortoiseshell.   This lovely comb measures 7.5 inches across the top and 2.75 inches across the part where the teeth are.   The shape and decoration mean that this comb would have been worn on the back of the head and wouldn't be noticed from the front.  This vintage costume item is in great shape and robust enough to wear and enjoy!
