1920's Casein Bead Necklace in 'End of the Day' Colours (Sorry this item is sold)
This gorgeous 1920's Flapper necklace measures 84cms (34ins) all round. It is on an original string, with no knotting. There is no clasp, the beads simply slip over your head. This necklace is made up of 61 unique beads of graduating size from around 1cm in length to a little over 1.5cms per bead. Each bead is a mix of swirly colours. 'End of the Day' is the term usually applied to handmade glass when, at the end of the day, the glassworkers blended all their left over colours to produce multi-coloured wares. Obviously the same thing happened in the 1920's when they were making early plastic jewellery! Casein is a milk-based plastic, often used to create buttons and buckles and also important in costume jewellery manufacture through the 1920s to 1950s. It is quite rare to find beads in this pattern but I was lucky enough to find these and the original 1920's Armlet bracelet that matched them. I have photographed the bracelet and would be happy to sell it to the buyer of these beads. If that is you, do e-mail me for a photograph and the price of the bracelet.
I have used my Art Deco Statue 'Dawn' to display the beads, she is not life size so please note the actual sizes of the beads in my description.
